There are a lot of teaching methods in this unit. I think the ESA method is one of the best. I have already had
experience using this method of teaching but didn't know it had a name. And like it a lot.
Example: for young learners class ESA straight arrow Engage, Study, Activate.
Engage-I would start with discussing and whiteboard drawing on nature things and asking what they were.
Study- Then have them draw things on their own that they know.
Activate- Then come back and discuss their drawings and how they related to English. Because these are images as they know.
Example: young learners class ESA boomerang Engage, Activate, Study, Activate.
Engage- whiteboard light drawing and questions about animals.
Activate- students play out sounds and motion on animals they know of.
Study- Give a work sheet with many different animals and sounds.
Activate- then have them act out or draw on a whiteboard or paper some of the New animals. Then discuss what they are and things about them.
The Patch work ESA can be vary time consuming and probably better with older students. Because of comprehension skills and with bigger class time. This unit did give me some new ideas of vocabulary game ideas such as word linking.
And I love the scoring chart code this was new to me. I will create my own and use it.
