In this unit, i have learnt about the parts of speech which forms a sentence. I have learnt that each word in a sentence has it's own part. Firstly, a noun which describes things and objects and the types of nouns which are countable nouns which can be counted such as people, pen etc. and uncountable nouns which cannot be counted such as music and rice. Next an adjective's purpose is to describe a noun. For example: 'A beautiful flower' which 'beautiful' is an adjective to describe the flower. There are also comparative adjective which compares 2 nouns such as 'He is taller than Adrian' and superlative adjective which compares in a larger group such ash 'Adrian is the tallest in class'. Next, I have learnt about articles which are split into two which are indefinite articles and definite articles. Indefinite articles describe a noun as a whole while definite article describe a certain noun only. For example: 'A ball is round'. 'A' is an indefinite article which can also be otherwise stated 'Balls are round' while on the other hand 'The ball is round' describes that using 'The' which is a definite article states that only that ball is round. Following articles is verbs. Verbs describe actions and states. In verbs, there are transitive and intransitive verbs, transitive verbs are verbs that is followed by an object such as 'read books' while intransitive verbs are verbs that cannot be followed by an object such as 'I sleep'. Lastly there is infinitives which are verb at their base form. It it often followed by 'to'. For example 'I am going to eat' which 'eat' is a verb at it's base form. Verbs are also split into 4 forms which are base form, past simple, past participle and present participle. Lastly we have auxiliary verbs which consist of do, have and be. Next, I have learnt about adverbs which describes a verb which is an action or add meaning and information to it. For example 'He runs quickly'. In the sentence 'run' is a verb and 'quickly' is an adverb to describe how is he running. Following adverbs is gerund. Gerund is a verb which is made into a noun by using -ing. An example would be 'Smoking is bad'. 'Smoking' which is a verb is used as a noun in the sentence. Next is pronouns. Pronouns are used in place of more precise nouns. Example of pronouns are I, you, she, he, him, her etc. Comparing to nouns in a sentence would be, for example, 'Adrian has a pen' and 'He has a pen'. In the first sentence, it states that Adrian (which is a noun) has a pen, but in cases you do not know the person's name or simply do not want to use it, a pronoun (which is he) can be use instead of a noun. Next is prepositions, prepositions describes relationships between 2 words such as 'I sleep at night'. In the sentence, 'at' is a preposition to describe time. Lastly, I have learnt about conjunctions. Conjunctions are words that are use to connect 2 words or join them together. An example of conjunction would be 'and' such as 'I like to draw and write' which instead of only specifying 1 thing which i like to do, i can use conjunctions to state 2 of it at the same time. In this unit i have learnt how to define each word in a sentence and learnt how to explain them in different ways by giving examples.
