This unit highlights the qualities of a good teacher and those of a good student. It lists various roles of the teacher in the process of presenting a lesson. It compares the differences between adult learners versus young learners and stipulates various ways of categorizing English Language learners both from a European Framework as well as an English model classification.
I have learnt the need for teachers to be flexible in the roles they perform in that assuming various roles generate interest, motivation and meet the various needs to students in the classroom. It is also essential to understand and be sensitive to the language levels and cultural background of the students one is teaching and to respond appropriately to individual students in helping them to acquire the new language. It is essential and incumbent on the teacher to encourage and inspire a "bad" student by utilizing techniques that will help him or her to become a "good" student.
