Lesson plans give teachers an opportunity to briefly note what students are expected to learn by the end of the lesson and how to achieve that goal. They are also used for teachers' goals (aims), possible obstacles that might occur during the class and solutions (workarounds), and as a checklist (props, worksheets, etc) needed during the lesson. Lesson plans should also contain information about the class level and expected number of students. Lesson plans are very useful in case teacher needs to be covered by someone else, as well as for keeping a record of what a particular class has learnt so far. However, he/she shouldn't force the steps, phases, duration, pace, etc (exactly as planned). In other words, he/she has to be flexible and adapt the course of the lesson to meet students' needs.
