As a former student, I always questioned the choice of the course book. In many situations the book was seldom used, and when it was used the lesson felt 'stiff' and lacked flexibility. A majority of my most memorable experiences as a student were from interesting and engaging lessons from instructors. Of course, instructors must abide by a syllabus but as stated in the unit an instructor must assess the abilities of the class and adapt accordingly. In language classes, both authentic and created materials must be successfully utilized.
