I have seen this unit's content firsthand. I have taught piano to young learners and English to adult learners, and age certainly makes a difference. Like this unit explained, I would have to spend a lot of time keeping young students on task during their lessons, and I had to use a prize basket to try to motivate them to practice. The adult immigrants and university students I worked with had a lot more motivation because they saw English as necessary to improving their quality of life, career prospects, and grades.
The best learners did ask the most questions and asked for feedback on their grammar and pronunciation. I believe in supporting students' self-agency as much as possible, so I am more comfortable in the role of facilitator and participant rather than a manager. Classroom management is the area of teaching that I am most nervous about, so I am looking forward to that unit.
