This unit provided information on the characteristics of a good teacher, the characteristics of a good learner, the different roles a teacher holds in the classroom, and the different levels of language experience. I learned that it is important to have certain personality traits to be a good teacher. The personality traits that I believe are most important are, being patient, kind, lively, and motivating because a student will be more receptive and interested if you make the experience enjoyable. It is really important to develop a good rapport with the class and make sure everyone is involved with the lesson. It is also helpful to understand the differences between an adult learner and a young learner in order to be able to successful and effectively teach them. Being able to identify what language level your students are at is also helpful at making sure you are giving them reasonable lesson material. This unit as a whole taught me how to recognize situations and adapt my role to those situations. In order to be a successful teacher, you need to be very encouraging, sensitive to students feelings, and truly care about the learner.
