I appreciate the fact that this unit mentioned the first lesson. Much like any other social encounter, first impressions go a long way. If the students immediately perceive that the class will not be enjoyable either due to the atmosphere or the instructor, they will be not be as motivated as they otherwise could be. Individual student level must be assessed, and in the event of a gap proper measures must be implemented so that all students are equally challenged. Although it may be difficult to overcome, use of the students' native tongue should only be done as a last resort and a note should be taken as to why that instance occurred.
