English teaching to nonnative learners has various challenges. These challenges can stem from multiple factors including the learner’s age, level, class size, and the diversity of the class. For example, students who are at a very young age will need to be taught in simpler lessons that have more attention grabbing activities. Teachers may also need to maintain a higher energy level to keep students motivated while also maintaining order in the class. Meanwhile older students require a more restrained instructor who appears to have a wider range of knowledge. A younger student may also have different motivation compared to adult learners, as they mot likely did not make the decision to attend lessons themselves. Students classes with a wide range of students from different nationalities also have their unique challenges, as topic may be more familiar to some than others. Regardless of the challenges, a good instructor will prepare for their specific needs and make lessons to complement the students interests and goals.
