This unit is about reading and listening skills (aka receptive skills) and about how to select appropriate texts or audio for your students. One of the strategies to make sure that students can get the most out of a text or audio sample is pre-teaching any challenging vocabulary so that students don't get bogged down in trying to understand words and can instead focus on the text as a whole. This is something that I've done in math classes before as well, pre-teaching vocabulary so that students are equipped to talk about what they're learning.
