This unit taught me various uses of eye contact, gestures, and voice to effectively communicate, establish and improve rapport, and have good class control. It showed me multiple ways of grouping the students and how different seating arrangements can help maintain discipline and accommodate various personalities and learning and participation styles. It showed how to use the board as an interactive tool not only to explain items but to involve the students in using it as well. I learned how and when to give individual attention and various methods of making sure that student and teacher talk time are as balanced as possible. I learned what to consider and how to best give instructions. I was given reasonable ways to maintain discipline and deal with problem behavior and a calm, reasonable, and respectful way.
