Future Tenses are a particularly tricky area of learning for EFL students as there are 7 different tenses that can be used with future meanings. To begin with, the teacher should focus on the 2 most commonly used; 'be going + infinitive' and the present continuous tenses. Good activities for teaching these are making holiday and birthday plans and for the present continuous tense, a roleplay with secretary and clients, where they are trying to schedule an appointment in the future. For the most positive learning outcomes make sure the exercise is appropriate to the age and contextual knowledge fo the learner.
