This unit provides useful insight as to which tests should be given to students with respect to time. Prior to enrolling in an English course as a student from a non-English speaking country, students should take placement tests to ensure that they are enrolled in an appropriate course. From there a series of progress tests should be administered, culminating in more formal test set by either the local school district or the instructor. More ambitious and motivated students will then likely take practice exams in an effort to score well in externally administered tests.
