Unit 18 covered modal verbs, phrasal verbs, and the passive voice. It began with the rules for modal auxiliary verbs such as may, might, must, have to, etc. and how they express things like obligation, ability, permission, etc. I learned the uses and tenses of these auxiliary verbs as well. I was given teaching ideas for these including roleplay, rules, and signs.
I learned how the passive formations of auxiliary verbs relate to the various tenses as well as how to use them. Defining and non-defining relative clauses were explained including how pronouns relate to them.
Phrasal verbs were covered, explaining the three types: intransitive, transitive separable, and transitive inseparable. I found out that these can be difficult to explain to a class and are best introduced as vocabulary items.
