This chapter provided a helpful overview of the different types of tests a student can take. Placement tests help to organize students with similar language abilities into similar classes, and Diagnostic tests are used at the beginning of the school year in order to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each student. Achievement tests are used to measure a student's ability at the end of the school year, while external examinations are used by outside organizations to provide certification if a certain test is passed.
