Unit two discussed parts of speech. It is important to know the vocabulary of parts of speech as we later discuss grammar rules. It will be able to differentiate words and how we use them when teaching English. In my experience, there are several languages that do not use definite and indefinite articles. As a teacher, we need to be able to explain the difference between "a" and "the" and even discuss the exceptions, such as, "I'm at home." I was surprised to see "hospital" listed as an exception. I am currently asking my British friend if they say, "I'm at hospital." As an American, I would say "I'm at the hospital" even if there are several hospitals in my city. This is important for me to truly understand so I can teach correctly to my students. Of course this unit covers other parts of speech, like pronouns, prepositions, subject, object, verb, adverb, adjective, gerunds, conjunctions, and such. I do look forward to learning how to teach past participles, a very difficult concept to explain.
