This unit is a parallel to the unit on the present tense with explanations on the simple, continuous and perfect forms. The simple form uses -ed in the regular form. Similar to the present forms, the continuous form uses -ing and the perfect form uses the verb to have as an auxiliary verb. I learned the difference between the present perfect and the past perfect in this unit. While studying the present perfect, it seemed like a past tense to me, but the comparison to the past perfect clarified the way in which the present perfect refers to the present. In the present perfect form, the auxiliary verb to have is in the present simple tense, but in the past perfect form, it is in the past simple form.
