This unit is very relevant because these practices will be important in every single class. Knowing the material is important, but this unit focuses on how the material is conveyed. I found the seating arrangement advice to be useful because the setup of a room can greatly affect the atmosphere. Something as simple as how the tables are placed can have an impact on keeping the attention of the students. I liked the variation because for lectures, the students should be facing the teacher to avoid distractions, and for group activities they should move and face one another so they feel comfortable. The teacher has a big responsibility to make learning comfortable. It is important to be conscious of how the teacher presents themselves as well. Standing over a student’s shoulder as they work might be intimidating, and sitting down while giving a lecture or explaining an activity might loose the attention of the class. Teachers should be aware of the students’ body language, but also their own.
