This first unit is important because we, as teachers, need to understand who we are teaching (learners) and what techniques are appropriate for us to use in order to keep students engaged and excited to learn. Organization and rigidness can be helpful to facilitate activities and establish rules, but we must balance our lessons with creativity and fun topics to build a rapport with the students. We do not want to be too controlling or talk too much to avoid loosing the students’ attention. My biggest takeaway from this unit was thinking about the relationship between student and teacher and how to make that relationship a healthy one by understanding the learners needs and their skill level.
