Conditional sentences are used in English to express something that either will happen, could possibly happen or could have happened given certain conditions. The zero for also expresses things that always happen if the conditions are given. Students must bear in mind that only certain tenses and verb forms are allowed in the conditional and the main clause. Reported speech is used to give a second hand account of what someone said or thought. Students must keep in mind the backshift of tenses that is necessary when reporting speech.
