This unit focused on recommended teaching techniques for various ages and language levels. While some general rules are practically universal, such as teaching in English as much as possible, other rules can vary depending on the age of the students, their understanding of the English language, and their motivations for learning it. With children, it's important to praise them as often as possible, and to be consistent with students and the classroom rules. It's also very important to vary the tasks and play games as often as possible, because children often have low attention spans, and will learn better when they're having fun.
Whereas with adults, consistency and variation are still important, but it's arguably more important than with children to gauge the student's interests and motivations, so as to meet the adults on their turfs, so to speak. It might be more necessary that with children to test each adult to determine their strengths and weaknesses, to tailor the course to them. I thought the suggestion to shadow adult business clients at their place of work was an inspired idea.
