Unlike present and past tenses, the future tense in the English language has six instead of four forms. The future tense does include the four basic forms; simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous. But two of the present tenses (simple and continuous) can be used to speak of the future as well. Future simple tense uses "will," "shall," and "may/might" words before the basic form of the verb when discussing future facts, promising, making predictions without evidence, speculating, making spontaneous decisions, and making threats. Future continuous uses "will be" verb plus "ing" to make a prediction of the present, inquire politely, refer to future fixed events, and to discuss something taking place at a particular time in the future. Future perfect uses "will have" and the past participle to discuss when something will have been done by a certain time in the future. Future perfect tense uses "will have been" and the verb plus "ing" to discuss how long something will have continued by a certain time. An additional tense not mentioned in my overview yet is the "going to" tense used with the base form of the verb to discuss intentions, predictions with evidence, and plans already decided.
