This unit teaches about the four different types of present tense; Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect and Present Perfect Continuous. Present simple is used for habits or routine actions, permanent situations and facts, commentaries, history, headlines and directions. Present continuous is used when talking about something presently happening, talk about something that is temporary but not necessarily happening at that moment, emphasize frequent actions, background events, etc. Present perfect uses the helping verb "have" and its negative form and is used to talk about what happened at an indefinite time, or experience in general, when talking about something in the past that is still true today, past actions with present results, etc. Lastly, Present perfect continuous uses "have" + been or "have" + "not been" to talk about something that has been ongoing, or a recently finished activity with a present result. This section goes through examples of the affirmative, negative and question forms of each of these grammar patterns and also includes typical student mistakes as well as example activities for the activate teaching stage.
