This unit covers types of teaching techniques and class structure for learning. It covers different ways we have tried to teach each other languages from Ancient Greek translations to more current ways of looking how we learn and teach a student a new language, be that PPP or ESA. I have seen even back in my time in my school days of levels 9-12 when learning a new language most teachers used the PPP method and very mildly used the CLT when the class seemed to grasp a concept that was being taught. There are several forms of teaching methods out there. No one way is going to be the "best," but sometimes you must use a blend of several based on the level of proficiency per class. Such as for a beginner class of young adults you may need to use PPP to get a certain word or phrase across, but as they grasp the concept you may move onto CLT to enforce what they are doing.
