In Introduction to Grammar - Parts of Speech, I learned not only the parts of speech, but also why we use these. We have our basics such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns & prepositions. Along with those I also understood the meanings of common, proper, compound, abstract, collective and plural nouns. In the adjective category, I also learned the comparative and superlative forms and how to use these properly in a sentence. In the articles, there are indefinite, definite and zero. I was able to use these in proper sentence structure. Verbs have transitive, intransitive and infinitive forms for each verb. In the verb forms (regular & irregular), there are base forms, past simple, past participle and present participle. Also, the auxiliary verbs are often used to help form tenses but is not the main verb but it helps form a structure to the sentence. Adverbs have 5 main types: manner, place, time, degree & frequency. Some of the other types are comment, linking, viewpoint and adding/limiting. Notable for me is that by adding "LY" to an adjective, you have created an adverb. Using a gerund is used in the same way as a noun; a subject or an object. The categories of pronouns are personal, possessive, reflexive and relative. Prepositions have 3 main types: Time/Date, Movement, Place/Position and show the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in the sentence. Conjunctions are words that join words or groups in a sentence. They join words of the same class and clauses of sentences.
