The past continuous tense expresses an unfinished or incomplete action in the past. this is recognized within text as a the verb was/were followed by a verb+ing. Past Perfect tense is used to talk about something that happened before another action in the past. it is recognized within text as 'had' placed before a past participle. Past perfect continuous is used to show something that started in the past and continued up until another time in the past. This is used to show something started in the past nd continued up until another time in the past. It is recognized in text as 'had' plus 'been' plus verb+ing.
