In unit 2, I learnt about parts of speech. 1. Nouns are used to name people, places, animals and other things. There are 5 main types of nouns which are common (computer, rabbit) , proper (The Great Wall, Tina), compound (hair dryer, post office), abstract (happiness, ability) and collective (family). Nouns can be countable or uncountable. 2. Adjectives are used to describe nouns such as people and things. If we what to compare two people or things, we usually use the comparatives: (adjective)+ er than.... If we want to compare 3 or more people or things, we use the superlatives: the (adjective)+est. 3.Articles: There are 2 kinds of articles: definite (the) and indefinite(a/an). 4.Verbs: Transitive verbs are followed directly by an object, while intransitive can not. Verbs have four different forms: base form, past simple, past participle, present participle. 5.Adverbs are used to add meaning or information to the action. 6. Gerunds: the -ing form of a verb used as a noun. 7.Pronouns are used in place of noun phrases. Four different types of pronouns: personal(she, them), possessive(mine, ours), reflexive(myself, themselves), relative(who, which). 8.Prepositions (at, on, before, below); Conjunctions (and, therefore, but, so as to)
