Having been out of study on the parts of speech and structures of sentences in the English language for almost a quarter century, it is quite an eye-opening experience to look at these principles again from the eyes of a second language learner. The things I take for granted, such as types of adverbs, verb tenses and gerunds may come flawlessly to me but would be very difficult for a first time learner. In addition to being a necessary review of the material I am quite happy to have this perspective to draw on as I look at a future career in teaching English abroad.
