Lesson plans serve several roles for teachers. First and foremost, they are an aid to planning. It may seem daunting for new teachers to go into a classroom without a lesson plan to keep them organized and on topic. The lesson plan also gives teachers something to refer to during the lesson. Lesson plans also serve as records of what you've done so far with your class. Writing notes on your lesson plans about which activities went well and which ones need improvement, teachers can improve their lessons in the future. It is important that the teacher and lesson plan remain flexible. If an activity is going well perhaps the teachers should extend it and skip another planned activity. Ultimately, the lesson plan serves as an organizational tool for the teacher, but should not overpower the natural dynamics of the classroom creating a rigid, boring environment.
