In this unit, I have learned that it is the teacher's responsibility to be kind to the students and not critique all of what they say in order to establish and maintain the rapport between the learners and the teacher. The teacher also has many roles while in the classroom. There are times when a student should be corrected. For example, if the student wants feedback on their work, then the teacher should help them. However, if a student is speaking in English in class, the teacher should allow them to speak on their own and avoid correcting subtle errors that do not impede comprehensibility, because they may lose their motivation if they become self-conscious or embarrassed. As the students continue to practice their English, they will make less mistakes as develop a deeper understanding for the language. The levels of language acquisition are beginner, elementary, intermediate, upper-intermediate, and advanced. In Europe, these are typically referred to as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.
