Unite 19 covered the topic of the types of English classes a person might encounter. A classroom of BEGINNERS might include the absolute beginner, the false beginner, the adult beginner, the young beginner and the beginner who is unfamiliar with the Roman alphabet. The false beginner my have some previous knowledge but haven't retained much. The adult beginner is usually motivated because they have made the decision to learn whereas the young beginner may lack motivation because the choice was made for them. The beginner who isn't familiar with the Roman alphabet will need a great deal of work on basic literacy skills. When teaching beginners, teachers must be aware of the needs of the student, have realistic aims. encourage students to speak in English as much as necessary and provide plenty of practice. Teaching Individual students has been a growing field, particularly in business. Many lessons used in class can be modified by choosing/re-creating lessons that involved group activities. Make sure to give the student what they need along with care for the learners interests. Teaching children can be a rewarding choice. Usually students are excited and curious. The instructor's speech should be slower and more clearly pronounced with exaggerated pitch and intonation. Positive reactions to their attempts should be frequent. Props/objects/picture cards, or gestures are helpful during lessons. Always have plenty of supplies and provide opportunity for creative expression. Consistency is the most important when teaching children. Teaching business English is not as daunting as it may seem. Prior experience isn't necessary because the most common goals usually are in the area of telephoning, introductions, presentations to name a few. Client age rang can be quite broad. Some may not be motivated because they were required to attend and may be tired when they do come to class. Lesson flexibility is important to meet the needs of the student. Most importantly, it is necessary to do a needs assessment. It is important to have a general understanding of the areas of English they need to know. it is the responsibility of the teacher to not know the client's business but in being the English language expert. Make the course relevant by choosing the most common business experiences they may encounter. Assessments should be given periodically throughout any course/audience to evaluate if the class is on course or needs a readjustment.
