This unit explains the basic rules regarding the use of modal auxiliary verbs such as,can,could,may,might,shall,should,will,would,must,have to,have got to,need to,needn’t and ought to.From this course,I learnt that modal verbs can be used to express different ideas such as:ability,advice,deduction,obligation,offer,permission,possibility,prediction,prohibition,promise and request.A chart has also been provided to help the teacher on the usage of modal verbs.Also,an explanation on the use of active voice and passive voice has been given.The two types of relative clauses,that is defining and non-defining clauses have been explained.Finally,the three types of phrases verbs,that is,intransitive verbs (type 1),transitive separable(type 2) and transitive inseperable(type 3) have been explained with examples.
