This unit focused on the receptive skills of reading and listening. All people read or listen for either a specific person or entertain; however, those to reasons can be mixed. The ways we listen and read are done through predicting content, scanning for information, skimming, searching for detailed information, or deducing the meaning of words or phrases from context. Through pre-teaching and carefully selecting texts, an instructor can encourage the students to have confidence in their receptive skill abilities as they become more familiar with reading and listening to a foreign language. I learned ways to motivate the students through diversifying topics that could work to create interest and help the students perform better on their comprehension tasks that will promote understanding of the content by using worksheets and activities that further cement if the students are comprehending what they are reading and not just regurgitating information.
