Class management is a subject matter which troubles even professional language teachers. This is because it involves the ability to set a conducive learning environment for teachers and students all together. Unit five summarizes factors that affect the teacher and students class management skill as follows;
-Class discipline
-The teachers teaching tonality, use of eye contact and gestures
-Teachers ability to recognize a particular class activity and use a different student grouping to complete the task
-Arranging sitting positions for students in relation to factors such as classroom space, student nationality etc. Different sitting positions are also proposed depending on the nature of the class.
-Then, the time frame appropriate for the teacher to always turn his back against the students and write on the board and what can be done to minimize this habit.
-Teacher and student talk time is then addressed with it application in giving student instructions.
-At the end of the unit, it is made clear that students may portray some problem behaviors which could be as a result of peer pressure, family problems or just feel bored.
Teachers are advised to be quick to realize how to adjust all the above points so as to make their classroom a better learning environment.
Unlike in other chapters, this chapter however did not put forth any examples of behaviors that one can expect to iron out when teaching students from particular nationalities.
