This unit focused on classroom management how to effectively build a healthy classroom environment that will help students learn as well as an outline to how an instructor should behave to maintain high rapport with their students. Body language was a high focus in this unit when learning different approaches for eye contact, gesturing, voice tone, and body positioning within the classroom. A teacher should not always be the most dominant figure in the room or call out students if it would make them uncomfortable as that could inhibit their ability to focus on the lesson and learn. It is also important to be aware of cultural mannerisms as some things may lead to misunderstands within the classroom such as writing in red pen on student assignments. Also pointing at students should be avoided and instead open hand gestures are encouraged. Grouping students and classroom arrangement were also very informative pieces in this unit that gave me ideas on how to effectively manage my classroom in a way that was most beneficial for all and encourage student talk time in order to make them more comfortable with learning and speaking the language.
