A good teacher doesn't necessarily need to be an extrovert but rather be able to find an effective teaching style that works for them. A good teacher must have strong classroom management skills, meaning that they manage the class well, and ensure a positive atmosphere while maintaining order and discipline. A teacher who is effectively able to use eye contact well, gesture when necessary, have a strong voice and remember every students name is important to ensuring control over a classroom. There are a myriad of ways that teachers can group students for activities and there are pros and cons to the various ways students can be split up (i.e. whole class, solo work, pairs, and group work). It is a good idea to mis up the ways that students are grouped during classes and that .a teacher pays attention to the context of their classroom. The physical setup of the classroom can also greatly influence how learning occurs in the classroom. Orderly rows is perhaps more effective in larger classroom contexts but for smaller classes circles or separate tables work much better. A major consideration for all teachers should be teacher talking time (TTT) and student talking time (STT) and it is really important that teachers avoid unnecessary TTT. While it is important that students are exposed to a teacher's pronunciation and teaching in TTT, it is also important to maximize the amount of time that students are practicing through STT. In giving instructions, it is important to use simple language, be consistent, use visual clues and ensure that students understand the instructions. If a teacher is able to establish a good rapport with students, instructions and lessons are likely to be much more successful and enjoyable. To maintain discipline, a teacher must consider factors like age, motivation, class size, school rules, culture and respect to find ways to mediate problem behaviors. A teacher who is well prepared, calm, connected with the students and passionate about teaching will be able to mitigate many potential problems in the classroom. In responding to problem behavior, it is important that a teacher acts immediately, focuses on teh behavior rather than the student, changes the classroom dynamic, keeps calm and uses their best judgement to deal with the student as according to the school's standards.
