This unit covered the how to teach a new language by focusing on vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. Determining which type of vocabulary words to teach a class is one of the most important steps. Difficulty in teaching the vocabulary terms depend on most specifically the similarity to the student’s native tongue, English words already known, spelling and pronunciation, and the appropriateness of the vocabulary. For example, it would be just as unwise to teach a class of beginners how to talk about politics before teaching them how to introduce themselves. I learned a lot about how to incorporate the ESA teaching style when teaching these different parts of a new language and I am becoming more inclined toward the Boomerang method as well.
