Creating a lesson plan helps you, the teacher to guide the class in a more orderly fashion than just having a general idea about what you need to teach. By having a lesson plan that has different parts, you can better see the general direction that your class will go as time progresses. Having a lesson plan that is somewhat flexible is important as you cannot always plan for what will happen during the class, the plan acts as a guideline for how the class will unfold, but isn't an absolute script of what you will do. With a lesson plan creating a concrete, effective plan with a set final goal is much more reasonable and attainable.
