This unit closely follows the previous, and talks about effectively teaching speaking and writing skills. Using both accuracy activities and fluency activities is important. Accuracy based activities include drilling and prompting, as well as model dialogues and guided role-play. In these, the output is controlled by the teacher (to an extent), and the focus is on correct language. Fluency based activities include discussions, information gap, debates and more student-based output activities of this sort. Here it is more important for the students to be able to communicate back and forth effectively, than for every word or sentence structure to be correct. The major way to work on accuracy and fluency seems to be with group work to encourage students to speak. I enjoyed creating my own creative speaking activity lesson for practice.
