This This Unit went over planning lessons. It especially focused on a lesson plan based on the ESA method, which is what I plan on using. A lesson plan should include learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, Anticipated problems (for students and teacher), procedure, phase, timing, interaction and then the formalities such as class level, number of students, date and time and teacher’s and observer’s names. The example lesson plan was very useful in making the prospect of making my own far less intimidating. A lesson plan doesn’t need to be perfect, nor does it need to be perfectly followed, but it will allow me to start a class with confidence and something to refer to in case the class gets off course and avoid falling behind. Monitoring the lesson afterwards is also crucial in my opinion, as you can reflect on what went as you expected and what expectations need to be adjusted or dealt with. Without a lesson plan showing what you expected the course of the lesson to follow, and what the students should leave knowing, it can be easy to repeat mistakes and end up not only falling behind on curriculum but staying blind to a problem that may therefore escalate. I also appreciated the blank version of the Lesson Plan and Self Evaluation – I will be using them.
