Having studied foreign languages for several years in school, I was able to notice my teachers' approach towards course books. While some heavily relied on course materials, others only used them as a guideline and often utilized them in conjunction with several created materials - especially crosswords and flashcards. As a student, I have appreciated both approaches. On the one hand, course books provided a balanced mix of exercises and a constant review of previously mentioned topics. On the other hand, I remember I used to find student's books extremely boring and predictable, so I definitely appreciated created materials provided by professors.
