This unit explained to me the three different areas of the english language students must learn to learn english. All three categories are equally as important and a teacher must spend equal time and attention on all of them! These three categories are teaching vocabulary, which is best with a straight arrow ESA style of teaching with other helpful hints for best teaching vocabulary including how to select words and how to help students learn them. It showed a great example of a sample grammar lesson. Then, I learned about how to teach grammar and grammar structures. This gave another ESA style to teach in known as the boomerang approach. It also gave sample lessons and ways to help teach grammar. Finally, there was teaching language functions which include areas such as inviting, agreeing, suggesting, etc. I learned methods that can be used for teaching and examples of what NOT to do. However, I learned that you can be quite flexible in the way you tech depending on the students, etc.
