When considering the four basic skills in any language, it is important to note that receptive skills are just as important as productive skills. However, in order to first get students engaged and involved in whatever listening or reading activity one might have prepared, one must first choose material suitable to the students' interests, language level, and needs. Therefore, it is important to build rapport and discover what their interests are, in order to produce more interesting materials for the classes if necessary.
