In this unit, I appreciated the categories of learners, the qualities of a good learner and the reasons a learner may be taking a second language. Knowing that there is a false beginner will help me move a student to intermediate with attention. Knowing that a good learner can be one who really wants to learn will help me encourage those who are having difficulty. Knowing that an adolescent might be taking the second language, not by choice will be a help in understanding the young learner's reticence or lack of motivation if observed.
Understanding the roles of a good teacher are many will help me remember to switch roles as necessary. From monitor to prompter and from manager to assessor are just examples of the roles teachers play.
