This Unit was on the Past Tenses. It was very useful to me, as I never learned the names of these tenses nor how to identify them. Growing up at a normal American High School, (if my memory serves right) this explanation of grammar is simply not part of the curriculum – it just comes naturally to a native speaker. The unit went over the structure and usages of the: - Past Simple (completed past action, “verb+ed” – watch out for irregular verbs); - Past continuous (action in progress at a somewhat specific time in the past, “was verb+ing”); - Past perfect (past action that occurred before another past action, “had verb+ed”); - Past perfect continuous (action that began in the past and may or may not be ongoing, “had been verb+ing). I did feel some of the wording of the module, especially when describing usages, made it seem more complicated than it really is. However, the “sample activate stage teaching ideas” were very useful and I led me to come up with some ideas to add to my portfolio of activity ideas. It’s strange to realize that English has all these conjugations that we never truly studied in class (as compared to the extensive practice and memorization my French School teachers had us do when learning French tenses, and now German tenses).
