The two receptive skills are reading and listening. Both of these skills are equally important. There are four components or skills that we use when we read and listen. Predictive skills are usually used when you read a title of a book, name of a show/video or the heading of an article. You predict what the text or dialogue will be about. Scanning the text/dialogue is only to find the specific information that you are looking for without having to read the whole text. Skimming is slightly different. This skill is specifically to get the gist of the information that you may be reading or listening to. Detailed information is used when you have to pay attention to every single detail like when you are learning a new language or reading an instruction manual. Deduction from context is when the text or dialogue has a meaning beyond its literal meaning. You have to analyze the context of the text.
