Unit 1 was about the necessary qualities and roles of teachers and qualities and motivations of learners for successful learning. While teachers must be kind, patient, love teaching, be able to motivate learners and has good subject knowledge in order to make good teachers, it is important for learners to possess the willingness to listen to the language and ask questions, desire to experiment with the language, ability to think about their own learning process and methods, acceptance of error correction, and desire to learn in order to be good learners. Furthermore, teachers hold many roles in the classroom, such as the manager, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, resource or facilitator, model, and observer or monitor. A good teacher should know when to switch roles depending on the activities. Although learners vary by levels and age, they must have or at least develop motivation to learn the language, and this is where good teachers come in. Teachers must have the aptitude to create a classroom climate that encourages learning that is fun and engaging.
