In this unit, we reviewed the different "past" tenses. This was very helpful since it can be confusing for students to know when to use each tense. It's important that as teachers we are able to effectively explain the difference between each tense so that our students speak correctly. It's good to know what the common errors are with these tenses so we can quickly correct our students when they make mistakes. For example, students often get confused with the past perfect and the past perfect continuous, so it's a good idea to have a lot of examples of those tenses. Students often forget the verb 'to be' when forming the past continuous as well. One each of these tenses is reviewed, it's helpful to give students a story in the past that uses all of these tenses so that they are able to see the correct uses of each tense. When creating these tenses it's also important to review both the past simple form of the verbs and the past participle. Since many verbs are irregular in these forms, students need to memorize the irregulars.
