Unit 7 focused on the ins-and-outs of teaching a new language. Particularly, it focused on teaching vocabulary, grammatical/language structures and language functions. The ESA method was used to demonstrate how to effectively lead a lesson. As someone who has just arrived in a foreign country with absolutely no knowledge of the language until I started my intensive German courses, I see now that my teachers are roughly following this method. My favorite part is the study, as I find the activate portion can be intimidating and demoralizing when it is thrown at you so quickly. For this reason, I would rather use the Patchwork methods. In addition, knowing how to select vocabulary and teaching language functions is especially important, simply because lacking the basic ability to go to the store, make a doctors appointment or ask directions creates major problems when arriving to a new country.
