Effective instruction would require differing and distinct approaches on a particular language/grammatical theme. The ESA model provides a strong template that an instructor can use to best approach his students on different levels to effectively convey the significance of the language. For example, any foreign language learner must effectively warm up in casual speaking activity and exercise before fully delving into the rigors of grammar and syntax. Moving to a study phase, it is important for the instructor to have a more active role in isolating particular grammatical/semantic aspects of the language to offer new information for the student. After focused attention has been given to instructing new rules/paradigms, it is necessary for students to integrate the newly-gained knowledge into their regular language use during the activate stage. I find this a helpful model as it would help me to adequately balance my lesson plans and thereby not get 'lost' in the woods of instruction and thereby NOT lose students either!
